So many clients of mine ask the same questions, and one of them is "what do I eat in the evening?"
Snacking in the evening isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just needs to be controlled and exempt certain foods. One thing people tend to eat in the evening, thinking its not "too bad" is cereal. Unfortunately most cereal is not a good choice, being loaded with sugar, high in calories (plus milk) and most will consume a portion that is larger than it should be just cause its in a bowl and it's cereal. There are also the typical snack foods - chips, chocolate, baked good etc. which need to be cut out.
Depending on your own personal fitness goals you may or may not be consuming carbs in the evening. If you are, regular old oatmeal is a great thing to eat, especially with a tsp of natural peanut butter. If you are not consuming carbs in the evenings, green vegetables such as brocolli, celery, spinach, green beans etc. are a great choice. These foods will leave you feeling satisfied in the evenings, with a minimal amount of calories. If you are seeking a protein rich snack, nothing beats a shake or egg whites!!
Tip: As soon as you come home from the grocery store, wash, cut, prep your vegetables and store them in an air tight container. You are way more likely to snack on foods that are ready to eat immediately rather than anything that you need to prepare. Guarantee your vegetables don't go bad and you eat them quicker than ever!
